September 24 – Expanding Your Pedagogical Toolkit

Expanding Your Pedagogical Toolkit
Tuesday, September 24th, 5:30pm-7:30pm
Graduate Center, Room 9206

Looking for strategies to help energize your class? Interested in learning new ways to structure students’ engagement with course materials?

In this TLC workshop we will explore concrete teaching strategies and exercises you can use to make your classroom more dynamic. Our focus will be on specific exercises, assignments, and instructional design practices that you can use to encourage participation and promote diverse modes of engagement with course material.

We’ll begin by looking at a collection of classroom activities, each with a range of pedagogical goals as we consider how these exercises might be incorporated across disciplines. Next, we’ll think about interventions, modifications, and improvisations we can use on the spot when an activity isn’t going as we’d hoped or planned. Participants can expect to leave with several specific classroom activities and strategies to include in their pedagogical toolkit.
