TOMORROW!! “Don’t Let CUNY Die” Budget Protest March 24, 4 pm

Dear PSC Members,

Together with students and allies, the PSC is winning the war of public opinion on cuts to CUNY. But we need to increase the pressure. There are only a few days left before the State budget-with the possibility of funding for retroactive raises in our contract-is decided on April 1. Join your colleagues, CUNY students, community supporters and elected officials in a protest and planned civil disobedience this Thursday, March 24, from 4:00-5:30 at Governor Cuomo’s Manhattan office, 633 Third Avenue.

“Don’t let CUNY die!” was the chant of hundreds of CUNY students who marched across the Brooklyn Bridge last week. The protest on Thursday, March 24 will include a “die-in” by participants who are trained and prepared to risk arrest. “Die-ins” have a long history in progressive movements, including the environmental movement, ACT UP and Black Lives Matter, where they have been used to demand change and demonstrate the high stakes involved in policy decisions. The stakes for CUNY and for our students in this budget are very high.

Engaging in civil disobedience is one of the strongest acts of solidarity with fellow workers and our students that we can perform. It is also one of the most profound ways to signal the moral seriousness of our cause. Witnessing and supporting the civil disobedience is equally important as participating.

Come and join students, faculty, staff and community partners this Thursday, 3/24, 4-5.30 pm at 633 Third Avenue to demand fair funding for our contract and for our students.

We need everyone this time!

In solidarity,
Barbara Bowen
President, PSC
