Wanted:  A person who is familiar with Lower East Side geography and history to assist with food distribution and general visitor wrangling for a (non-tenement) Lower East Side walking tour. I wrote this tour using archival materials from the YIVO Institute to tell the history of the Yiddish-speaking Lower East Side. The “visitors” are two groups of students in Yiddish language summer programs. There are around 20 students in each group. Both group leaders are familiar with the program and have taken this tour with me before. This year I want an assistant to help me step it up a notch so everything runs more smoothly. (I.e. I don’t spill pickle juice all over everyone while frantically gesturing to the people in the back that they need to hurry up to make it across Allen Street.)
