CFP: History Graduate Student Conference 2023 – due Friday January 20, 2023

The PhD Program in History at the CUNY Graduate Center invites proposals for individual papers or panels at the 13th annual graduate student conference on Friday, March 31, 2023. The theme of the conference is: “A Usable Past: History In and Out of the Academy.”

The conference offers a welcoming atmosphere in which students can present their own work, receive feedback from CUNY faculty as discussants, and meet other students working in related fields. It is particularly designed for first and second year PhD students to gain experience in a conference environment.

We welcome submissions of completed papers or preliminary research findings and works-in-progress. This could include a master’s thesis or first/second-year research projects, as well as dissertation chapters. There is no need to have a finished paper to apply!

To apply: submit a 250 word abstract as well as a brief bio (year, field, research interests). Submissions are due Friday January 20, 2023. Please send proposals to Miranda Brethour, Deena Ecker and Rebecca Irvine at: GChistoryconference@gmail.com

Accepted participants will be required to submit a 8-10 page (double spaced) paper three weeks before the conference for commentator review.

The conference will be held in-person, at the Graduate Center, CUNY in Manhattan, with hybrid options available.
